The Saint Michael women’s soccer team is the first female soccer team to debut at the ESFNA soccer tournament, empowering the women, young ladies, and girls of the Ethiopian culture bringing them together in sport that is highly celebrated in our country. The federation our team is a member of, ESFNA (Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America, www.esfna.net), in the past has been a male only soccer league that is until May 2008, the St. Michael team created and brought together girls from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. We debuted at the 25th anniversary of the soccer tournament, marking a milestone of the growth of ESFNA. Every year since our team’s debut, we are proud to say we have been the inspiration for other women’s teams to come up. The women’s conference is constantly escalating with the Saint Michael team name at the fore front facing new and different challenges every year.

Our Journey Begins
Our team has had to over come some obstacles since our first tournament, but none greater than what we have to deal with this year. The 2010 ESFNA tournament is located in San Jose, California and getting the proper funding to get there is our first obstacle. We have been fundraising and rallying up as much money as we can and we are still determined to continue on our search for aid until we reach our goal!
